Evaluate Online Sources Using SIFT Online

This webinar will introduce students to the SIFT method of source evaluation. Students will learn how to use the SIFT method in order to evaluate sources the way professional fact checkers do. The four “moves” of the SIFT method—Stop, Investigate, Find Better Coverage, and Trace Claims Back to Their Original Context—can be used to quickly check the validity and credibility of information encountered online.

After attending this webinar students will be able to:

  • Utilize criteria to select and evaluate sources of information
  • Use lateral reading to investigate a source or claim
  • Use web literacy skills to find the original context for quotes, claims and media
